Coaches Report

What a great team effort.  Everyone got involved from the start all the way through to the finish.  Your attack and desire for the ball was excellent and you applied relentless pressure on your opponents.  We had a great combination of players in the middle that worked together and read the fall of the ball very well, starting with Kai's great ruck work all day, unchanged. Well done to Tate, Charlie and Hugh.  James Corbett played a vital role for us at centre half back, providing lots of run and drive.  Hamish put in a solid performance at full back with some great and at times desperate support from James R.  Riley played a gritty and tenacious game off half back.  Our half forward line, led by Liam, provided a lot of run, drive and scoring opportunities.  The full forward line also chipped in with some clean and quick goals led by Josh McEvoy.  Special mention to Julian and Alex to get amongst the goals.

Hopefully boys we are starting to build some self belief as we head into the ligthning premiership day next week.  Although you played one man down all day, you never lost focus on our team rules.  Well done!

We must now put this win behind us and begin to build up our preparation for the coming week and this starts with a solid and committed training session from all this Wednesday at 4pm sharp.

I'll see you then and will pass on details for this Sunday.

In perfect conditions for football, our team was pitched against a similar team to the one we played earlier in a practise match, with the exception of the inclusion of a few larger players.   We had most of the possession for the first three quarters and the ball spent most if its time in our front half.  However we couldn't make the most of our opportunities as or forwrd line was very congested and our ball movement very slow.  As a result when the opposition did get the ball out, they were able to move the ball around the wings and flanks quickly and cleanly between their lose men.  They took full advantage of their limited forwrd thrusts and at the last change the scores were even.  The game was physical and tough with many hard bumps from both sides and it took its toll on our regular band of on ballers and centre line players in the last quarter who had worked tirelessly all day.  The opposition over ran us in the last quarter as we had spent a lot more energy without the rewards on the board.  It was very pleasing from a coaches point of view to see one or two players relish opportunitities in new and more demanding roles as this will help the team.  As we progress through this season it is very important that each player grows and understands their role in a team sport and the support that this team needs from every one of you.  This week we will have two additional players for the rest of the season.  This will go some way to help share the work and effort but we must work harder together as a team to help and support each other on match days to get a more even contribution from all, particularly in those areas that we all know we can all do.  This will be our focus at training for the coming weeks.
